 Abstract:  Evaluating the Use of Public Surveillance Cameras for Crime Control and Prevention presents three case studies of public surveillance camera implementation and use. It details the decisions behind camera investment, implementation, and use, and highlights the role that public surveillance systems play in supporting arrests, investigations, and prosecutions. It also presents the results of a quantitative analysis of the impact of public surveillance on crime and the possible displacement or diffusion of effects in surrounding areas, as well as a cost-benefit analysis of camera investment and impact in two jurisdictions.
