The United States Attorney’s Office
announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on June 7, 2012,
before U.S. District Judge Same E. Haddon, Jerry Harold Middle Rider, a
57-year-old resident of Browning, appeared for sentencing. Middle Rider was
sentenced to a term of:
■Prison: 37 months
■Special assessment: $100
■Supervised release: three years
Middle Rider was sentenced after a
federal district court trial in which he was found guilty of assault resulting
in serious bodily injury. Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Weiss prosecuted the
case for the United States.
Because there is no parole in the federal
system, the “truth in sentencing” guidelines mandate that Middle Rider will
likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system,
Middle Rider does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for “good
behavior.” However, this reduction will not exceed 15 percent of the overall
sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the
Federal Bureau of Investigation.
