This is a statewide sobriety deterrence program that seeks to combat impaired driving and reduce alcohol-related car crashes and fatalities in the state of Tennessee. The program is rated Promising. The program was found to have a statistically significant reduction on the number of drunk driving fatal crashes and nighttime single-vehicle injury crashes, compared with preintervention trends. In 2011, Checkpoint Tennessee was rated Effective based on a review of a single study. A 2020, re-review of the same study using the updated CrimeSolutions Program Scoring Instrument resulted in a revised rating of Promising. LEARN MORE |
