September is National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month occurs every September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Each week throughout the month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Ready Campaign focuses on a different aspect of preparedness for individuals, families, and communities, with the week of September 19-25 dedicated specifically to teaching youth. Back to School During COVID-19: Mental Health Resources from SAMHSA
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), released several back-to-school resources designed to address mental health and resiliency in school settings. Specific resources include a Supporting Student and Staff Mental Health Toolkit; a Behavioral Health Impacts Overview; and a Virtual Learning Session on strengthening school communities. The Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network, in partnership with the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, has developed a free self-guided online course; video library and resource collection; and a website focused on educator mental health literacy. The 3-part training package, Classroom WISE (Well-Being Information and Strategies for Educators), was informed by and co-developed with educators from across the nation and offers evidence-based strategies and skills to engage and support students with mental health concerns in the classroom. Toolkit for Responding to COVID-19 Cases (CDC) – Designed for K-12 school administrators, this toolkit outlines guidance and strategies to help schools be prepared to respond quickly when someone with COVID-19 has been in the school or at a school event.
First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST) Training (DHS) – The FAST training program, available to organizations and individuals seeking education on handling a life-threatening bleeding emergency, empowers high school students with the skills and knowledge necessary to save a life.
Protecting Sensitive and Personal Information from Ransomware-Caused Data Breaches (CISA) – This fact sheet provides information for all private sector organizations, including critical infrastructure organizations, on preventing and responding to ransomware-caused data breaches.
