Oglala Man Pleads Guilty to Child Abuse

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Dominic Roan Eagle, Sr., age 29, of Oglala, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on October 29, 2010, and pled guilty to count three of an indictment that charged him with felony child abuse and neglect. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. In May 2010, Roan Eagle violently shook his 4-month-old son, causing serious injuries. The investigation was conducted by the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Vargo. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for January 28, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
