U.S. Marshals Arrest Burlington Fugitive in Bennington County


Burlington, VT -- The U.S. Marshals Service Vermont Violent Offender Task Force (VVOTF) arrested a Vermont fugitive who was wanted for a Return on Mittimus and an Escape Warrant.

Michael Germain, 64, of Burlington, Vermont was arrested in Arlington, Vermont on February 23, 2015 when confronted by the Vermont State Police. On July 10, 2014 the Vermont Department of Corrections issued a Return on Mittimus for Mr. Germain after the terms of his community placement were violated. On July 16, 2014 an Escape Arrest Warrant was issued for Mr. Germain, charging Mr. Germain with Escape from Furlough.

On August 21, 2014 the Vermont Department of Corrections contacted the U.S. Marshals Service, seeking their assistance in locating Mr. Germain, as Mr. Germain’s whereabouts were unknown. The VVOTF began a fugitive investigation and spent the next 6 months gathering information and tracking down leads.

On February 23, 2015 the VVOTF gathered information on Mr. Germain’s current location. Due to the distance the target location was from Burlington, some 3 hours, the VVOTF coordinated with the Vermont State Police. Drawing on the strong relationship between the two agencies, the information gathered was shared with the Troopers. The Vermont State Police quickly acted on the information provided, locating and arresting Mr. Germain at a residence in Arlington, Vermont.

Germain will be seen in Rutland Criminal Court today, February 24, 2015 pertaining to the escape arrest warrant and will be held in the Department of Corrections custody on the Return on Mittimus.

Mr. Germain’s arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, the Vermont State Police, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations.
