COPS Office Releases First Podcast of 2018

The COPS Office has released the first 2018 podcast in its "The Beat" series, which focuses on the LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) Near Miss Reporting System. This national initiative, launched in late 2015, collects information about near-miss incidents involving law enforcement and first responders. Modeled after the Federal Aviation Administration Near Miss Reporting System for airline pilots, LEO Near Miss is an anonymous, voluntary, non-disciplinary reporting system where law enforcement officers share "close calls" or "near misses." The data is analyzed for incident-specific information about near misses to provide lessons learned, underlying risk factors and characteristics that contribute to near-miss incidents, thus offering the potential for safety changes within an agency and nationwide.
