PITTSBURGH - A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a
federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of federal narcotics and firearms
violations, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.
The two-count indictment, returned on May 1, named James
Robert Czachowski, age 21, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, on or about April 11, 2018,
Czachowski attempted to possess with intent to distribute quantities of
alprazolam and a fentanyl analogue. The indictment further alleges that
Czachowski, a convicted felon, was in possession of three firearms and
ammunition. Federal law prohibits an individual who has been convicted of a
felony from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in
prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines,
the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses
and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Shanicka L. Kennedy is
prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Postal
Inspection Service and the Homeland Security Investigations conducted the
investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed
innocent unless and until proven guilty.
