14th Prescription Drug Take Back Day Nets Record Number of Pills
Americans turned in a record-setting 912,305
pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs
for disposal at more than 5,300 collection sites on the Drug Enforcement
Administration's October 2017 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The
collection exceeds the April 2017 amount by almost six tons. Since fall 2010,
the DEA has collected more than 9 million pounds of prescription drugs. This
year, DEA also worked with its tribal law enforcement partners to set up 115
collection sites on tribal lands. The next Prescription Drug Take Back Day is
April 28, 2018.
