United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a Pine
Ridge, South Dakota, woman convicted of Second Degree Murder and Accessory to
Second Degree Murder was sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S.
District Court.
Elizabeth Ann LeBeau, a/k/a Ann LeBeau, age 25, was
sentenced on July 13, 2018, to 25 years in federal prison, followed by 5 years
of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the
Federal Crime Victims Fund on the Second Degree Murder charge. As to the Accessory to Second Degree Murder
charge, LeBeau was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, 3 years of
supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal
Crime Victims Fund. The time in federal
prison and supervised release are to run concurrently.
LeBeau was indicted for the charges by a federal grand jury
in January 2016. The charges related to
LeBeau strangling Emily Bluebird to death.
Bluebird was also struck in the head several times with a hammer. After the homicide, LeBeau and codefendant,
Fred Quiver, covered up the homicide by hiding the body to prevent their
apprehension, trial, and punishment.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs,
Office of Justice Services, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety,
and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Megan Poppen and Kathryn Rich prosecuted the
case.
LeBeau was immediately turned over to the custody of the
U.S. Marshals Service.
