ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Cody Laweka, 29, of Zuni, New Mexico was sentenced
in federal court in Albuquerque today to four years in prison for possession
with the intent to distribute 10 pounds of methamphetamine.
Laweka
previously pleaded guilty to this offense on Jan. 15. According to his plea
agreement, Laweka planned to sell 10 pounds of methamphetamine on July 17,
2019. He went to a parking lot in
Albuquerque expecting to meet the customer.
Laweka kept the methamphetamine he intended to sell in a hotel room nearby. He was going to retrieve it after collecting
payment of $28,000 from the customer.
However, the customer was actually an undercover federal agent who
arrested Laweka before completing the transaction.
The Drug
Enforcement Administration investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney
Robert I. Goldaris prosecuted the case.
