Concord - Brian Landry, a 66-year-old man from Franklin, has been charged with making threats to kill a United States Senator, announced U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young. The charges stem from Landry's alleged threat to assault, kidnap, or murder the Senator in connection with their official duties. Landry is scheduled to appear in federal court in Concord today at 2:30 pm.
According to the charging documents, Landry placed a phone call to a district field office of the United States Senator on May 17, 2023, where he left a threatening voicemail. In the voicemail, Landry identified himself as a veteran sniper and made explicit threats towards the Senator, saying, "Hey stupid. I'm a veteran sniper. And unless you change your ways, I got my scope pointed in your direction and I'm coming to get you. You're a dead man walking, you piece of f*ing sh."
Investigators were able to trace the phone call back to Landry, and during the subsequent interview, he admitted to contacting the Senator's office. However, initially, Landry claimed not to remember the exact content of the voicemail.
The charge against Landry carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, up to 3 years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes governing criminal cases.
The investigation into this matter was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Capitol Police, with valuable assistance provided by the New Hampshire State Police, as well as the Franklin and Manchester Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Rombeau is handling the prosecution of the case.
It is important to note that the details outlined in the charging documents are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
