Hidden Compartments Don’t Stop CBP Officer in San Luis

Close to $700K in Narcotics Seized

December 07, 2009: San Luis, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrest 39-year-old man for attempting to smuggle both cocaine and Methamphetamine with a street value of $686,912.00 into the United States.

On December 6, CBP officers encountered the 39-year-old man when he applied for entry into the U.S. driving a 2004 Chevy Malibu. The primary officers noticed the man’s nervous demeanor and escorted him to the secondary lot for an intensive inspection.

During the inspection, non-factory compartments were discovered with more than nine pounds of cocaine and more than six pounds of Methamphetamine by the officers after the canine detector dog alerted them to the area.

The man was immediately arrested and turned over to the Department of Public Safety for further investigation.
