January 28, 2010 - Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald stated today that Dwayne Roderick Ross, age 37, of Rock Hill, was sentenced in federal court in Columbia for conspiracy to sell cocaine and crack cocaine. United States District Judge Cameron M. Currie sentenced Ross to 344 months' imprisonment, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release.
A jury convicted Ross in September 2009, following several days of evidence which established that over the past five years Ross was a high-level dealer of cocaine and crack in the Rock Hill area. Ross obtained cocaine and crack from suppliers in Charleston, as well as the Houston, Texas area. He then sold these drugs in and around Rock Hill and Charlotte.
Ross had a long criminal record, that included prior state convictions for possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, discharging firearms into a dwelling, and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
The case was investigated by the York County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the York County Sheriff's Department, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, the Greenville County Department of Public Safety, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney James Leventis of the Columbia office prosecuted the case.
