On April 11, 2011, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the M&I Bank branch located at 3905 West 69th Street in Edina, Minnesota, was robbed by a lone man. The robber came into the bank lobby and approached a teller. He placed an insulated lunch box on the counter and told the teller there was a bomb inside and that he wanted her to give him money. The teller complied with the demand and provided the robber an undisclosed amount of money. The robber opened the lunch box and placed the money inside. The teller observed some brown paper and a wall switch inside the lunch box. The robber then walked out of the bank with the lunch box and was last observed entering a white, four-door KIA Spectra, which he drove away in an unknown direction. Edina police officers, Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies, and FBI agents responded to the bank to investigate.
The robber is described as a white male, in his 20s or 30s, about 6’ tall, and about 185 pounds. He wore a green jacket with a logo on the left breast, dark pants and shoes, a wool cap and a scarf, and multi-colored sunglasses. He is not believed to be responsible for any other bank robberies in the area.
Richard T. Thornton, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Office of the FBI, requests that anyone with information regarding this bank robbery contact the Edina Police Department at 952/826-1610, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office at 888/988-TIPS, the Minneapolis FBI Office at 612-376-3200, or Crime Stoppers at 800/222-8477.
