150 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO DELIVER 1,000 TOYS

150 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO DELIVER 1,000 TOYS TO KIDS AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL COLORADO ON DECEMBER 15

Cops Fighting Cancer’s Long Blue Line 9th annual event and toy drive brings police officers together who’ve helped deliver checks to those with cancer during the year
Aurora, Colorado – More than 150 uniformed law enforcement officers from throughout the metro area will bring smiles to kids at Children’s Hospital Colorado when they arrive in a motorcade -- flashing red and blue lights -- to bring them 1,000 new toys for Christmas.
It’s all part of the “9th Annual Cops Fighting Cancer Long Blue Line” where officers who have helped deliver checks to families with cancer throughout the year come together to deliver toys to benefit Children’s Hospital Colorado. The event takes place on Thursday, December 15, with the gathering of law enforcement at 9:00 A.M. at Graebel Companies with the motorcade arriving at the hospital at 10:15 A.M.

The officers, from more than 30 different law enforcement agencies, will gather at Graebel Companies where they’ll form a motorcade with their police cars and motorcycles. The “long blue line” will consist of more than 50 police cruisers and motorcycles. When the motorcade leaves Graebel, it will head directly to Children’s Hospital. Aurora police officers will block off Airport and Colfax Blvd. to traffic during the procession. The trip is four miles and will take approximately 15 minutes.

Once the officers arrive at the hospital, they will in the atrium for a short welcome address and then proceed up to the patient floors to deliver toys to the children. All the toys have been donated by local residents, businesses, churches, non-profit organizations and Mattel Toys.

The officers will greet the kids, present them with a new toy and take time to congratulate them on their courage and perseverance.

“If a little emotional support helps a child get through another day then we are accomplishing our purpose,” says James Seneca, the founder of Cops Fighting Cancer and a cancer survivor himself, who is heading up the toy drive.

Six metro area Police Chiefs will be present including Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates. Some of the 30 law enforcement agencies participating include: Aurora Police Department, Denver Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Commerce City Police Department, Littleton Police Department, Colorado State Patrol and the FBI.
In April 2003, Officer Seneca founded “Cops Fighting Cancer” a 501(c)3 non-profit organization made up of police and civilian volunteers. It’s goal – to provide hope to those suffering from cancer.

The non-profit holds annual fundraisers and has so far donated more than $700,000 to help 200 families with medical costs, mortgage payments, rent, car payments, food, clothing and other basic necessities.
