October 18, 2012 – IRVING, TEXAS – Smart Start, Inc., an industry leader in vehicle and
in-home alcohol monitoring, endorses
“Operation Safe Driver Week.” This initiative is an effort to mobilize the
public and remind all motorists to safely share the road in order to prevent
unsafe driving. Unsafe driving accounts for nearly nine out of ten fatal
crashes.
Operation Safe Driver Week is
taking place from October 14-20 in the United States, Canada and Mexico and is
sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and the U.S.
Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA), as well as strategic partners that include state, provincial, local
law enforcement and industry organizations.
“Smart
Start’s core business of ignition interlocks helps remove alcohol impaired
drivers, ensuring safer roadways and decreasing preventable accidents. We
embrace the importance of Operation Safe Driver Week and share its goals of decreasing
distracted driving and speeding, eliminating aggressive behaviors and alcohol
impairment, limiting texting at the wheel and urging extra care near school
buses. Safer driving is common sense – it saves lives,” said Smart Start
President Jim Ballard.
Operation
Safe Driver Week features an increase in traffic and safety belt enforcement,
driver regulatory compliance, and roadside inspections. In addition to these
regulatory activities, Operation Safe Driver Week continues to expand upon its
series of educational programs, each directed towards specific target audiences
and driving behaviors.

About Operation Safe
Driver Week:
Operation Safe Driver Week was launched in 2007 to combat the
number of deaths resulting from crashes involving large trucks, buses and
passenger vehicles. The campaign is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety
Alliance (CVSA), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and
many other industry stakeholders. This week-long, North-American continent-wide
mobilization features stepped-up traffic safety enforcement aimed at unsafe
driving behaviors, particularly distracted driving and teens texting while
driving. http://www.cvsa.org/osd/
