National Institute of Corrections Offers Training Events



Registration for four National Institute of Corrections training events closes in April 2017:
  • Managing Restrictive Housing Populations, May 22-26. This 40-hour training program focuses on the management of inmates in Restrictive Housing within the control and jurisdiction of departments of corrections throughout the country. Visit https://nicic.gov/training/17p3602; deadline is April 1.
  • Mental Health First Aid, May 23-24. This 8-hour, one-day course teaches individuals how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Visit https://nicic.gov/training/17p1019; deadline is April 3.
  • Planning and Implementing Effective Mental Health Services in Jails, June 13-15. Visit https://nicic.gov/training/17jpimh2; deadline is April 7.
  • Executive Training for New Wardens, June 26-29. This 36-hour program helps participants enhance their skills in areas essential to effective leadership and administration of a correctional institution. Some of the topics to be discussed include institutional culture, central office relationships, budget management strategies, decision making and media relations.
