San Diego — U.S. Customs and Border
Protection officers stopped a teenager Tuesday at the Otay Mesa passenger port
of entry with a package of heroin hidden under her clothes.
At about 6:30 a.m. on June 26, at the
Otay Mesa passenger port of entry, an 18-year-old female U.S. citizen, and
resident of San Ysidro, Calif., arrived at the border crossing on foot.
During her inspection for entry into the
U.S., the CBP officer noticed that the teen seemed nervous, and referred her
for a more intensive inspection.
CBP officers found a package taped with
electrical tape to the outside of the men’s boxer-briefs that she was wearing,
with another pair of boxer-briefs worn over top.
The package contained almost two pounds
of heroin, with an estimated street value of $24,000.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and
turned the teenager over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents;
she was booked into the Metropolitan Correction Center.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is
the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged
with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and
between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and
terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
