Marshals captured a man wanted for allegedly robbing a Portsmouth Family Dollar
Store one week ago. Yesterday around noon, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task
Force took 26 year-old Travis Deshaun Jones into custody at a home in
Chesapeake.
On the afternoon of July 15, Portsmouth Police Officers
responded to a call for a robbery in progress at the Family Dollar Store
located at 3400 George Washington Highway. The suspect was gone when police arrived,
but detectives were able to identify Travis Jones as the suspect in the
robbery. Arrest warrants were issued for Jones, charging him with Robbery and
Use or Display Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was asked to locate
and arrest Jones based on these outstanding warrants. The fugitive
investigation for the armed and dangerous suspect came to a safe conclusion
yesterday. U.S. Marshals took Jones into custody without incident at a
residence on the 3000 block of Welcome Road in Chesapeake.
Jones is being held at the Portsmouth City Jail.
The U.S. Marshals-led Fugitive Task Force consists of law
enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals, Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office,
Newport News Police Department, Portsmouth Police Department and Norfolk Police
Department. The main objective of the task force is to seek out and arrest
violent offenders with outstanding federal and state warrants.
The U.S. Marshals Service, America’s oldest federal law
enforcement agency, arrested more than 33,300 federal fugitives, 66,300 state
and local fugitives and 11,700 sex offenders in 2015. Our investigative network
and capabilities allow for the unique ability to track and apprehend any
fugitive who attempts to evade police capture, anywhere in the country.
