Dayton, OH - After nearly three months on the run, fugitive
Robert M. Forney was apprehended by Deputy U.S. Marshals in Denver, Colorado.
Forney was convicted of raping his 8 year-old daughter in April of 2006. Forney
was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment, with requirement to register as a
sex offender. Deputy U.S. Marshals in Dayton, Ohio got involved in the case
after receiving information on September 11, 2016, that Forney possibly fled
the state. U.S. Marshals conducted countless investigative searches and
followed all leads.
Investigation made positive headway when U.S. Marshals
discovered Forney was utilizing brown older model conversion van to travel between
states utilizing an alias: Jared Matin in order to disguise his real identity.
U.S. Marshals in Dayton developed more information that the van might possibly
be located at a Walmart parking lot in Westminster, Colorado. The diligence of
investigators paid off and it all came to an end for Forney in the early
morning hours on September 14, 2016. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals
Denver, Colorado and Westminster Police Department the van was located and
Forney was arrested without incident. Due to federal legislation under the Adam
Walsh Act, U.S. Marshals will be seeking federal failure to register as a sex
offender charges. Forney will be extradited back to Ohio where he will answer
pending charges.
The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s primary fugitive
hunting organization and captures more federal fugitives each year than all
other law enforcement agencies combined.
