Albuquerque, NM - Yesterday the United States Marshals
Service in New Mexico added violent offender Leroy Lucero to the District of
New Mexico’s “New Mexico’s Most Wanted Program.” Lucero was apprehended today
in Las Vegas, NM. Lucero was wanted by the United States Marshals Service and
United States Probation for violating terms of supervised release. Lucero was
convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
After seeing the media coverage of his addition to the “New
Mexico’s Most Wanted Program” Lucero began to contact authorities wishing to
turn himself in. Investigators with the United States Marshals Service and the
Las Vegas NM Police Department were able to arrest Lucero without incident.
United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico Conrad
E. Candelaria commented “This is a great example of the impact it has when Law
Enforcement and the Media work together to inform the public of potentially
dangerous criminals in the community. In this case like many others the media’s
broadcast and reach helped law enforcement achieve their goal of a successful
apprehension. Together the law enforcement community and the media prove to be
a significant factor in making our community safer.”
