Portland, Maine:
United States Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced that Everton Jones, 22,
currently residing in Lewiston, was arrested in New York and charged today by
criminal complaint in U.S. District Court with distribution of cocaine base,
commonly known as “crack.”
According to the complaint, the charge arose from an
investigation into crack trafficking in Lewiston.
If convicted, the defendant faces up to 20 years in prison
and a $1,000,000 fine.
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI’s Southern
Maine Gang Task Force; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives;
the U.S. Marshals Service; the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; the Maine
State Police; and the Lewiston Police Department.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and a
defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
