FBI Charges Portland Man with Bank Robbery

March 1, 2010 - The FBI has charged Brian Patrick Marlin, age 44, with one count of bank robbery for allegedly attempting to rob the Wells Fargo bank branch located at 3625 SE 39th Avenue in Portland on Thursday, February 25. Investigators filed the charges via criminal complaint on Friday, February 26. Attempting to rob a bank carries the same charge as actually robbing it.

Portland police officers responding to the 911 call from the bank noticed Marlin, who matched the robber’s description, sitting next to a building nearby. They arrested him on an outstanding local trespass warrant pending Friday’s federal charges. Agents and officers based the federal charges on witness descriptions and other investigative details.

During Thursday’s robbery, a man walked into the bank, which has "bandit barriers”—protective glass walls that protect the employees from robbers. After making repeated verbal demands for cash, but not receiving any cash, the robber left. Witnesses say the robber implied that he had a weapon, but no weapon was seen.

Marlin will likely have his initial appearance before a federal judge on Monday.
