Agents Seize $2.2 Million Worth of Marijuana in Texas

Fronton, Texas ─ U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana early this morning near Fronton, Texas.

The marijuana was seized when agents saw a suspicious pickup truck being driven north away from the Rio Grande with its headlights turned off. When the vehicle’s driver saw the agents, he immediately drove the truck into the brush.

While searching for the truck, agents found a trail of fresh footprints that led them to more than 100 bundles of marijuana. A helicopter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Air and Marine was called in to assist and spotted the pickup lodged in the brush near the river.

The marijuana has an estimated value of more than $2.2 million and will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

To report suspicious activity, call the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol sector’s toll-free telephone number at (800) 863-9382.
