Eagle Pass CBP Officers Arrest Man Wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

Eagle Pass, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass port of entry on Monday apprehended a San Antonio man wanted on three outstanding warrants for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The apprehension occurred on March 21 during an outbound examination by CBP officers and Border Patrol agents at Eagle Pass International Bridge. A CBP officer referred southbound pedestrian Gerardo Lopez Castillo, a 44-year-old male Mexican citizen from San Antonio, Texas for a secondary examination.

During the examination, CBP officers verified Lopez Castillo’s identity and confirmed he had outstanding state warrants from San Antonio for three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. After confirming the warrants were active, CBP officers turned Lopez Castillo over to the custody of Maverick County sheriff’s deputies for transport to a local jail pending extradition proceedings.

“Our CBP officers and agents remained vigilant in the outbound environment and their perseverance and attention to detail resulted in the interception of a man wanted for multiple warrants for crimes of a sexual nature against a child,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP port director for Eagle Pass. “Border security is our top priority and it does not matter whether someone is going south or north, we conduct examinations in both directions. The important thing is that people with outstanding warrants are intercepted at the border and CBP continues to do its job to keep our communities secure.”
