Social Media and Community Policing





The Boston Police Department has long embraced both community policing and the use of social media, and successfully used social media to keep the public informed in the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. This research identified 923 US state and local law enforcement agencies with Twitter accounts.  Based an analysis of those accounts, the research documented current practices, identified best practices and recommends organizational policies for the set-up as well as operation of official law enforcement twitter accounts.
