BEAUMONT, Texas – A 29-year-old Carthage, Texas man has been
indicted for federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced
U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown today.
Winfred
Earl Ware, Jr. was indicted by a federal grand jury on Nov. 14, 2018, and
charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine,
obstruction of due administration of justice, and tampering with a witness by
misleading conduct. Ware appeared before
U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin today for an initial appearance.
The
indictment alleges that from 2014 through 2017, Ware conspired with others to
possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The indictment further alleges that between
May and July 2018, Ware obstructed or influenced information regarding the
administration of justice in his prior federal criminal case and knowingly
engaged in misleading conduct with the intent to prevent the testimony of a
witness in that case.
If
convicted, Ware faces a minimum of 10 years and up to Life in federal
prison.
This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the
Panola County Sheriff’s Office, and
prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Hable and Lauren Gaston.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until
proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
