Bank Robber Captured After Chase

March 18, 2010 - Portland Police Officers and two citizens captured a suspected bank robber today after a chase through Northeast Portland and Providence Portland Medical Center. At approximately 1:45 p.m., a man walked into the Key Bank located at 444 SW 5th Avenue, Portland, flashed what appeared to be a firearm, and demanded cash. He left the scene in what investigators believe is a stolen vehicle. Investigators believe the “firearm” was actually replica or toy weapon – not a real gun.

Soon after the robbery, Portland Police officers identified a person matching the robber’s description driving a vehicle near the intersection of NE 47th and Burnside. The driver eluded police and crashed the vehicle into a Providence shuttle bus as he drove onto the hospital property. He ran through the hospital, chased by Portland Police officers. He is not believed to have had a weapon – real or toy – with him during this time. He exited the hospital and officers, along with two nearby citizens, captured him near the intersection of NE 44th and Irving.

The Oregon City man, Nathan Brent, age 28, currently faces a parole violation charge. Federal charges are pending. He will be lodged in the Multnomah County Jail later in the evening.

No one was hurt during today’s events.
