CBP Officers at Pharr International Bridge Seize 145 Pounds of Marijuana

Pharr, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge seized approximately 145.9 pounds of marijuana Thursday morning. The estimated street value of the marijuana is $116,720.

On Mar. 3, CBP officers working at the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 1999 Astro van. The male driver was identified as a 33-year-old U.S. citizen from Chicago, Illinois. A CBP officer referred the Astro van and driver to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized two compressed bulk amounts of alleged marijuana that was discovered within the vehicle’s gas tank. The van was also seized by CBP.

The male traveler was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement –Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

Hector A. Mancha, CBP port director for Hidalgo/Pharr, said, “Our frontline officers are doing great law enforcement work and have recently seized several cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine drug loads.” Mancha further said, “I commend our officers for a job well done.”
