County Man Sentenced for Federal Drug Violations

TYLER, TX—A 30-year-old Mount Pleasant, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Crisoforo Bello Mejia pleaded guilty on Oct. 14, 2010, to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison on Mar. 3, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider. He was also ordered to forfeit $7,000.00 in seized cash to the government.

According to information presented in court, on Jan. 28, 2010, Meija was found in possession of 15 grams of powder cocaine, which he delivered in exchange for $450. On June 11, 2010, federal agents executed a search warrant at Meija's Mount Pleasant home and discovered an additional 254 grams of powder cocaine and $7,000.00 in drug proceeds. Meija was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 14, 2010, and charged with federal drug violations.

This case was investigated by the Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division, Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, DEA, IRS, and ATF and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble.
