Eagle Butte Woman Sentenced to 48 Months for Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Person Under the Age of 21

PIERRE, SD—United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte, South Dakota woman charged with distribution of a controlled substance to a person under the age of 21 was sentenced on March 2, 2011, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Sammy Houston, age 27, was sentenced to 48 months in custody, six years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Houston was indicted for distribution of a controlled substance to a person under the age of 21 by a federal grand jury on June 9, 2010. The charge relates to Houston's distribution of morphine on May 6, 2010, to a person under 21 years of age. Houston pled guilty to the charge on December 6, 2010.

The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride.

Houston was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
