Dayton, OH – U.S. Marshal Cathy Jones of the Southern District of Ohio and Chief John Sedlak of the Miamisburg Police Department announce the arrest of Ronald Preston, 56, of Ontario County, New York. Preston was wanted by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office for his alleged involvement in the rape of a former neighbor that occurred in Canandaigua, New York on February 23, 2011.

On March 11, 2011, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) was called upon by the Miamisburg Police Department to assist in the apprehension of Preston. SOFAST received information that Preston fled to the Miami Valley area. SOFAST proceeded to the 5000 block of
Upperton Circle
in Miami Township, where SOFAST officers made contact with Preston. Preston answered the door and was advised of the warrant. Preston was arrested without incident and transported to the Montgomery County Jail where he will await extradition back to New York.

Preston has previous convictions for Indecent Exposure, Sexual Battery, Kidnapping, Assault, Drug Possession and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Chief John Sedlak of the Miamisburg Police Department stated “the swiftness in which the SOFAST was able to respond, locate and apprehend Preston shows the true value of the SOFAST as well as the value of being able to participate on the team”.

SOFAST in the Miami Valley area is comprised of the following federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies:  United States Marshals Service, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, Dayton Police Department, Greenville Police Department, Miamisburg Police Department, Moraine Police Department, New Lebanon Police Department,  Springfield Police Department.

U.S. Marshals are the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and capture more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
