Paterson Man Sentenced to More Than Five Years in Prison for Distribution of Oxycodone

NEWARK, NJ—Harun Arslan, 28, of Paterson, N.J., was sentenced today to 63 months in prison for his illegal sale of oxycodone pills, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. Arslan previously pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with one count of possession with the intent to distribute oxycodone, which is a Schedule II controlled substance. Arslan entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares, who also imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

On Nov. 24, 2010, Arslan sold approximately 300 80-milligram oxycodone pills to an individual on the corner of Alps Road and Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, N.J., in exchange for approximately $8,400. Oxycodone is a highly addictive prescription painkiller that can only be dispensed by a medical professional or pharmacist.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Linares sentenced Arslan to three years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael Ward in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s sentencing.
