NEW ORLEANS—Thomas G. Wilkinson, age 54,
a resident of Jefferson Parish, was charged today in a one-count superseding
bill of information with conspiracy in violation of Title 18, United States
Code, Section 371, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
If convicted, Wilkinson faces a maximum
penalty of not more than five years in prison, followed by three years of
supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Letten reiterated that a
bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must
be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Because this charge was filed in
connection with an ongoing, pending criminal prosecution in United States
District Court, United States Attorney Jim Letten has stated that no additional
facts or details or comments are available at this time.
The case is being investigated by agents
from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who was assisted by the Metropolitan
Crime Commission.
The case is being prosecuted by
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian Klebba, Matt Chester, and Daniel Friel.
