Tucson, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Douglas station seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana last night from an abandoned vehicle found near Douglas, Ariz.
Agents patrolling about 30 miles east of the Douglas Port of Entry discovered an abandoned pick-up truck stuck in a wash. The vehicle had extensive damage and was missing its rear tires. Upon closer inspection, they discovered 49 bundles of marijuana loaded in the vehicle weighing 1,024 pounds with an estimated value of $819,680.
After securing the area, the agents performed a search of the nearby area but no subjects were encountered. The vehicle, which had Mexican plates, had not been reported stolen. The marijuana and vehicle were seized and transported to the Douglas station for processing.
From Oct. 1, 2009, to July 31, 2010, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized more than 867,500 pounds of drugs exceeding $694 million in value.
