Miami Sector Border Patrol Agents Apprehend 31 Illegal Cubans

Pembroke Pines, Fla. - Border Patrol agents assigned to the Dania Beach station apprehended 31 illegal Cuban nationals from Sands Key this morning.

The Cubans were reported by a recreational boater who called the U.S. Coast Guard after seeing the group of people on Sands Key, which is part of Biscayne National Park.

Working in conjunction with local law enforcement partners, including the Coast Guard, the U.S. Park Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Miami-Dade Fire Department, U.S. Border Patrol agents took custody of the illegal aliens at Black Point Park Marina and then transported them to the Dania Beach Border Patrol station for processing.

Initial questioning determined that all members of the group were citizens and nationals of Cuba.

The group consisted of 19 adult males, 10 adult females, one juvenile male and one juvenile female. All of the group members appeared to be in good health and uninjured. None required medical treatment.

No boats or rafts were located near where the group was found. The incident remains under investigation.
