OXFORD, MS—William C. Martin, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, and Daniel McMullen, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced that:
Larry Darnell Norman, 37, of Memphis, was sentenced this week before United States District Judge Sharion Aycock, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, following his guilty plea to three counts of an indictment, charging him with armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the robbery, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 2113(a) and (d), and 924(c)(1)(A)(ii).
Judge Aycock ordered Norman to serve 216 months (18 years) in prison for each armed robbery count, with his sentences to run concurrently, and seven years in prison for the firearm count, to run consecutively, for a total of 25 years in prison. Norman was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to Merchants and Farmers Bank in Southaven and to serve a period of five years’ supervised release following incarceration.
The indictment alleged that, on two different occasions in June of 2008, Norman used a handgun to commit an armed robbery of the Merchants and Farmers Bank at 1287 Stateline Road, Southaven, Mississippi. In committing these armed robberies, Norman brandished a handgun, putting into jeopardy the life of the bank employee.
This case was investigated by the Southaven Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Southaven, Mississippi, office and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Clay Joyner.
