Concord, NH - This afternoon, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive
Task Force located and arrested two “Fugitives of the Week.” The first was
Randall Root, 27 who was wanted for failure to appear on two separate burglary
warrants. Root was being sought by both the Grafton and Belknap County
Sheriff’s Offices. The second arrest was of this week’s “Fugitive of the Week,”
Randell Peters, 24, who was wanted on a Rockingham County arrest warrant for
failure to appear on a heroin sales charge.
The Marshals Fugitive Task Force has been the recipient of
several tips this week which pointed to a wooded area off of Coffin Brook Road
in Alton, where Root was reportedly camping. Today, the fugitive task force,
including members from Belknap County Sheriff’s Office, Greenfield Police
Department, deputy U.S. Marshals along with the Alton Police Department
searched this wooded area. As a result of this search, Root was located and
arrested without incident. In addition to the outstanding arrest warrants, Root
was in possession of a variety of narcotics. The Alton Police Department will
be pursuing criminal charges against Root for the illegal possession of these
drugs. Root was transported to the Belknap County Jail for processing and
holding pending his initial court appearances.
The second arrest this afternoon was also made due to the
numerous tips received that indicated that this week’s “Fugitive of the Week,”
Randell Peters was residing in an apartment on Belknap Street in Dover, NH. The
Marshals Task Force, including members from the Strafford & Rockingham
County Sheriff’s Offices, deputy U.S. Marshals with assistance of several Dover
Police Officers. The team responded to a Belknap Street apartment, where Peters
was immediately seen fleeing through the apartment, but was quickly
apprehended. Mr. Peters was transported to the Rockingham County Jail for
processing and holding on his outstanding warrant.
At this Belknap Street residence there were a large number
of people, and through further investigation one additional arrest was made.
Brian Humphrey, 44, of Rochester, NH was arrested and charged with possession
of a controlled substance by the Dover Police Department. Humphrey was
transported to the Dover Police Department for processing on this charge.
As part of the U.S. Marshals fugitive investigation, both
Root and Peters were featured as the “Fugitive of the Week.” The “Fugitive of
the Week” was aired on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua
Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, The
Manchester Ink Link and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of
the Week” has been a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and
arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is grateful to have
the support of the public, the media and our federal, state, county and local
law enforcement partners. These two arrests are proof that the “Fugitive of the
Week” program is a worthwhile endeavor and often leads to the quick and safe
arrests of these fugitives. Thank you all for your tremendous support.
Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task
