Cause of Central Living @ Carson Fire Determined to be Arson
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms
and Explosives (ATF) today announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information
on a devastating fire that occurred on Nov. 14, 2016 at the Central Living @
Carson Townhomes construction site located near South Tryon Street and South
Boulevard. After an investigation of the incident, ATF has determined that the
fire was intentionally set.
On Monday, the Charlotte Fire Department responded to a
reported fire at a construction site known as the Central Living @ Carson
Townhomes. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy fire coming from the
roof of the building and substantial fire activity in several of the units. ATF
Certified Fire Investigators partnered with investigators with the Charlotte
Fire Department and an accelerant detection canine for the North Carolina State
Bureau of Investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire and
conclude that the fire was intentionally set.
No injuries were reported, though damage estimates for the
structure were determined to be approximately $3,000,000. ATF, the Charlotte
Fire Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will continue
to investigate the incident.
