Burlington, VT - The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent
Offender Task Force (VVOTF), arrested a sex offender, whose whereabouts were
unknown.
Shawn Corbit, 42, of Burlington, Vermont was arrested on
Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Burlington, Vermont when confronted by Deputy
U.S. Marshals. Corbit was wanted by the Burlington Police Department /
Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations (CUSI) after his whereabouts became unknown
during a sex offender registry compliance check conducted by the CUSI in July
2016.
On November 14, 2016 CUSI contacted the VVOTF and requested
assistance in locating and arresting Corbit, as his whereabouts remained
unknown since July 2016. Information suggested that Corbit may have possibly
fled the county or even the state.
The VVOTF worked tirelessly on locating Corbit since
November 14, 2016 and eventually developed information on a possible location
in Burlington, Vermont. On the afternoon of November 17, 2016, Corbit was
located by the VVOTF as he was walking on North Ave, away from a targeted
residence.
Corbit is listed on the Vermont Sex Offender Registry’s
Website, indicating that he is required to register for a Felonious Sexual
Assault, dating back to November 1995. This conviction occurred in the State of

Corbit has a lengthy criminal history, to include several
failures to register arrests and convictions.
Corbit was in the Chittenden Vermont Superior court on
November 17, 2016 on the above listed arrest warrant. The outcome of this
hearing was not available at the time of this release.
