United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a Pine
Ridge, South Dakota, man convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled
Substance was sentenced on June 27, 2019, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S.
District Court.
Loren Shon Waters, age 46, was sentenced to 10 years in
federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a
$100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
From May 2016 through February 2018, Waters sold and
distributed 500 grams or more of methamphetamine in western South Dakota,
primarily on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gina Nelson
prosecuted the case.
Waters was immediately turned over to the custody of the
U.S. Marshals Service.
