TUCSON, Ariz.
–Christopher Betances, 34, of New York, New York, was sentenced by U.S.
District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps to 57 months of imprisonment followed by three
years of supervised release. Betances
had previously pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon.
On November 19,
2017, Betances, while serving time in a federal penitentiary, stabbed another
inmate in the face, neck, and upper body areas with a shank.
The investigation
in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the
Bureau of Prisons. The prosecution was
handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Raquel Arellano and Corey J. Mantei,
District of Arizona, Tucson.
