HAMMOND – Akeem Jackson, 29 years old, of Chicago, Illinois,
was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Philip P. Simon after pleading
guilty to Hobbs Act Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During and in Relation
to a Crime of Violence, announced United States Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II.
According to documents in the case, on April 28, 2018,
Jackson and others robbed a Brinks armored car while a Brinks employee was
servicing an ATM at a Chase Bank in Hammond, Indiana. During the robbery,
Jackson disarmed the Brinks employee by taking his firearm. Jackson stole
approximately $617,000 during the robbery.
This case was investigated by the FBI GRIT Task Force and
prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Jennifer Chang and Thomas
McGrath.
