March 5, 2010 - PHILADELPHIA—Anthony Scioscia, 51, of Philadelphia, was sentenced today to eight years in prison for robbing the M&T Bank, located at 117 South 18th Street, of $950, on July 23, 2009, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy. Scioscia was living at a residential reentry center (halfway house) in Philadelphia the day he walked into M&T Bank, threatened a teller by telling her he had a gun, and demanded that the teller give him all of her large bills. The FBI arrested Sciosia later the same day and recovered $828. Scioscia was indicted August 6, 2009 on one count of bank robbery and pleaded guilty to the charge on November 16, 2009.
U.S. District Court Judge Curtis J. Joyner took into account Scioscia’s criminal history, which included one prior bank robbery conviction, when sentencing him. In addition to the prison term, Scioscia was ordered to pay the balance of his bank robbery profit, or $122, and was ordered to complete three years of supervised release.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Karen M. Klotz.
