Chattanooga Police Chaplain seek-ing Stories from Law Enforcement Personnel for a book on Faith and Courage

Chattanooga TN Police Department Chaplain Grant Wolf is compiling an anthology of “stories of faith and courage” from law enforcement (LE) personnel for a book to be published by AMG Publishers with planned world-wide distribution. The book will be in the form of a daily devotional – 365 stories, one for each day of the year – where members of the LE community sensed the presence of God in some event relating to their work. Stories are sought from sworn officers, chaplains, 9-1-1 dispatchers, jailers, civilian sup-port staff, spouses and family members in situa-tions where the person submitting the story strongly felt that what occurred was beyond the realm of normal expectations.

Stories received to date run the gamut from light-hearted (a rookie who passed out while helping deliver a baby) to not-for-the-faint of heart (a bank shooting and a fatal auto accident). They represent every phase of law enforcement work and demonstrate that something happened relating to the incident which simply cannot be explained other than by God’s hand.

The purpose of this anthology is three-fold:

• To permit contributors an opportunity to give readers a glimpse into what it’s really like to be in law enforcement.

• To help demonstrate the spiritual side of the LE community.

• To help civilians see law enforcement in a positive light as men and women who care deeply for the communities they serve.

Contributors do not have to be concerned with grammar, spelling or any other writing details. Just e-mail your basic story (approximately 500 words) to Chaplain Wolf. He will review, edit and return it to you for approval. If you have an incident relating to a spe-cific event – such as the aftermath of 9/11, death of a fellow officer, finding a missing child, etc - that simply will give added interest to your story.

Why should you want to be one of the contributors for this unique LE compilation of “stories of faith and cour-age from cops on the street?”

• First, your story will appear in a “one of a kind” book” and could be a great inspiration to folks both in and out of the LE profession.

• Second, it may give you great satisfaction in having the opportunity to have your story in print.

• Third, it will be in the fifth book in AMG’s popu-lar Battlefields & Blessings Series. The current books in this series are on The Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II and - just released- The Iraq & Afghanistan War.

• Fourth, you will receive a special discount on copies to share with friends, family and co-workers.

This will be a ground-breaking book demonstrating the vital difference men and women of faith make in law enforcement. Your story has the opportunity to affect a vast audience – both in and outside of law enforcement circles. Wherever possible, if your story relates to a specific date or event (9/11/2001, major weather catastrophes, “line of duty” deaths, etc.), we will do our best to accommodate placing the story on or near that date.

Chaplain Wolf is an experienced writer and editor with many years service in the LE community, 17 as Executive Director of The Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers-USA. He is especially aware your story may relate to sensitive issues and will work with you to ensure legal and privacy safeguards.

The deadline for story submissions is March 30, 2010, so please send your story right away. If you need more information, call Chaplain Wolf at 423/355-7180 or e-mail him at police_stories@yahoo.com. (Please note: there is an underscore (_) between “police” and “stories.”) Don’t delay: stories will be accepted on a “first come, first served” basis.
