March 16, 2010 - MEMPHIS, TN—Dr. Roger Morgan, a psychologist, 56 of Lakeland, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to Count One of a two-count indictment today announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee and My Harrison, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Memphis Division.
Morgan was indicted in May 2008. According to the indictment, Dr. Morgan made false statements to the FBI about whether he had given former State Senator John Ford money and whether former State Senator John Ford had ever asked him to give money to Ford’s legal defense fund. Dr. Morgan denied having given money to then State Senator John Ford, knowing full well that he had been asked and had given money to Ford’s legal defense fund.
Morgan faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on June 23, 2010.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Memphis Division. Assistant United States Attorney Tim DiScenza is handling the case for the government.
