March 5, 2010 - Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis FBI office, today, announced the federal arrest of David Kim Carroll, age 27, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Wells Fargo Bank, located 8600 Highway 7, St Louis Park, Minnesota, was robbed by a lone individual who, after waiting 20 minutes with a bank employee for the bank manager to return, displayed a gun and ordered the bank manager to enter the bank vault and fill a bag with cash. The robber then ordered the manager to turn over his car keys, and attempted a getaway in the stolen vehicle. Responding St. Louis Park and Edina police officers and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived as the robber was leaving and a brief car chase ensued. The robber hit several parked cars, then abandoned the stolen vehicle two miles from the bank at the intersection of 27th and Louisiana. He attempted to flee on foot, entering a post office briefly before being confronted by an Edina police K-9 officer and being taken into custody without further incident.
On Friday, March 5, 2010, a federal criminal complaint was filed in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charging David Kim Carroll with one count of bank robbery for the alleged March 3, 2010, robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at 8600 Highway 7 in St Louis Park. Also on Friday, Carroll is scheduled to make his Initial Appearance in United States District Court, Minneapolis, Minnesota at 3:00 p.m.
This investigation is a joint effort by the St. Louis Park Police Department and the FBI with significant assistance from Edina Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota is prosecuting this case.
The charges in a federal criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
