John Markeith Webb, 36, of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 199 months in prison for the June 5, 2009 armed robbery of the Lafayette Ambassador Bank in Easton, Pennsylvania, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The sentence is the maximum under the sentencing guidelines. A federal jury convicted Webb on December 3, 2010, of bank robbery and using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.
Webb was wearing a mask and gloves when he entered the bank and loudly banged his gun on a door separating the public from the teller work area. Webb jumped over the wall and when he landed on the teller side, his mask fell down, exposing his face. Two tellers recognized him as the grandson of an elderly bank customer. Webb pointed his handgun at the women tellers and stole cash from their teller drawers. During the robbery, a 60-year-old disabled customer told Webb to leave the tellers alone because he was scaring them. Webb pointed his gun at the customer and told the customer to shut up or Webb would shoot him.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Joel H. Slomsky ordered Webb to pay restitution in the amount of $4,665 and ordered five years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Easton Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John Gallagher and Ewald Zittlau.
