Caskey initially was charged in a criminal complaint filed Aug. 18, 2011, in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan. The complaint alleged that Caskey entered the bank and gave a teller a note stating: “Give me all your 100’s, 50’s, 20’s. Do it now, I have a gun,” or words to that effect. Caskey took the money and left the bank.
The complaint alleges that after the bank robbery in Ottawa Caskey was arrested in Mexico on a federal kidnapping charge from Minnesota. That indictment alleged that on July 14, 2011, Caskey kidnapped his wife, Roberta Caskey, and fled the state with her.
If convicted on the bank robbery charge, Caskey faces a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $250,000. The FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken is prosecuting.
